Our Environmental Club consists of 4th through 8th grade students who have so much energy and excitement in helping to plan and implement student-driven sustainable practices at school. During club meetings, we get outside as much as possible!

In addition to our traditional campus, community, and stream clean-ups, recycling drives, and bench maintenance, our 2024 winter / spring session will include some new activities such testing our local streams for pollutants, upcycling old T-shirts into reusable shopping bags, performing invasive plant species removal in the surrounding communities, making green household cleaners, woodworking projects such as building bird houses or bat boxes, and learning basic outdoor skills!

Email Margaret.giron@gmail.com with any questions or to get involved!

The following examples are just some of the activities that the Environmental Club has accomplished.

Stream Clean-up and Water Testing-  How do trash and other pollutants make it to the Chesapeake Bay? The Environmental club members can tell you! During a stream walk and trash pick-up, students learned how storm water is collected, the source of some common pollutants, and how it all eventually flows into the Bay. They tested a local stream's water for pH, Phosphates and E.Coli. Results indicated that pH was normal, but were positive for pollutants such as Phosphates and E.Coli. Don't drink the stream water!

Tree Survey-  After discussing the benefits of having trees on the school and church property, the students counted, measured and classified the different types of trees around campus. They mapped out their locations and sizes, then determined where we could use more trees!
